Astronomer Frank Drake accidentally gave general managers a powerful tool for describing and understanding complex systems. As a founding idea of the Search for Extraterrestrial Intelligence (SETI), Drake's Equation
helped people from many different domains -- astronomy, chemistry, physics, business, neuro-science, and biology to name a few -- collaborate on one of the most interesting problems around: are we alone in our galaxy?
Using the principles on Drake thinking that we covered in General Management
, a small group will go deeper on this interesting and powerful concept. We will use real companies and products as examples for developing a Drake equation. We will also talk about how the equation might be useful inside the company for organizing work, prioritizing investments, and generally making sure the team is as productive as it can be.
